It is the first series of Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise and premiered on NBC on October 10, 2012. The show centers around the firefighters and paramedics who work at Firehouse 51 of the Chicago Fire Department. On February 27, 2020, NBC renewed the series for a ninth, tenth, and eleventh season and the ninth season premiered on November 11, 2020. The show centers around the private and professional lives of firefighters of the Chicago Fire Department. After the death of veteran Firefighter Andrew Darden, loyalties shatter as Captain Matthew Casey and Lieutenant Kelly Severide blame each other for the death of their friend. Severide more guilt stricken when he learns Darden’s wife also blames him for the tragedy. Despite their differences, the firehouse comes together. Lieutenant Christopher Hermann dies after getting stabbed by a friend of one of the firefighters. Casey nearly loses his life while on a fire call and distances himself from his friends and colleagues. New to the station is Firefighter Candidate Peter Mills, the candidate assigned to Truck Company 81, who is following in the footsteps of her father and is trying to find his place despite the objections of his mother. He leaves after the third season. Together with the firefighters are paramedics Gabriela Dawson and Leslie Shay. Shay loses her life in the third-season premiere "Always". Dawson exits Chicago after the sixth-season finale "The Grand Gesture", but returns in the seventh-season premiere "A Closer Eye". She reappears in the eighth-season episode "Best Friend Magic". Some new faces appear in the firehouse as the series continues. The firehouse family faces life or death decisions every day, but they treat each other like family, looking out for each other no matter what happens. Cutaway: This storytelling is one of the techniques in which new information about the action to follow is revealed to the audience outside of the current scene. Jumpcut: This cut moves from one scene to the next in the same frame. Wipe: In this case, the transition is shifting one clip from screen to screen and then removing it to reveal the start of the following sequence. L cut: This cut starts a new scene and allows audio from a clip to continue as the preceding clip ends and the following clip begins.
