It was introducing the as-yet-unnamed project that delves into the depths of Marvel Comics with its main character, Hypno-Hustler. As a special bonus, Myles Murphy—son of renowned actor Eddie Murphy—is on board to write this exciting movie!

In 1978, Bill Mantlo introduced one of Spider-Man’s most iconic villains when Hypno-Hustler debuted in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man No. 24. The true identity behind this villainous mask is Antoine Delson, and he leads a disco band called Mercy Killers that specializes in hypnotic robbery techniques. With his impressive powers and charismatic stage presence, Hypno Hustler has become an unforgettable part of Spidey lore.

Hypno-Hustler may not be a well-known Spider-Man antagonist. However, according to sources in The Hollywood Reporter, his presence was due to Donald Glover’s musical expertise and an opening in the narrative. Many fans were hoping for Donald Glover to play Spiderman in 2012’s Amazing Spiderman movie, which was awarded to Andrew Garfield instead. But fortunately enough, he still got the chance to voice himself out on Disney XD through Ultimate Spider-Man.

Sony is doing its utmost to bring the beloved characters from Spider-Man’s universe to life, with movies such as Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, and Spider-Woman in different stages of development.

Sony Pictures’ filmmaking history of Spider-Man:

The first Spider-Man movie was released in 2002 and was an instant hit. Starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, the movie grossed over $800 million worldwide. A sequel, Spider-Man 2, was released in 2004 and did even better at the box office.

After a short hiatus, the third installment of the Spider-Man series arrived in 2007. This time, Andrew Garfield took on the Peter Parker/Spider-Man role. The movie was not as successful as its predecessors but still made over $700 million worldwide.

In 2012, Sony Pictures released The Amazing Spider-Man, with Andrew Garfield reprising his role from the previous film. While fans didn’t receive as well it as Sam Raimi’s trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man still managed to bring in over $750 million at the box office.

Most recently, Sony Pictures released Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Starring Tom Holland in the title role, Homecoming was met with overwhelmingly positive reviews and made over 880 million dollars worldwide. Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to Homecoming, was released in 2019 and made over $1 billion at the box office proving that this franchise is still going strong.

Spider-Man has become one of the most successful superhero franchises in cinematic history, and with future installments on the horizon it’s not slowing down anytime soon. With Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man being hailed as one of the best iterations yet, it’s clear fans will continue flocking to theaters to watch Marvel’s webhead take on evil forces for many years to come.
