Casting Call: Feature Film "The History of Sound"

Job Details: We are seeking talented child and teen actors to play background roles in the feature film "The History of Sound," directed by Oliver Hermanus and based on Ben Shattuck's Pushcart Prize-winning story. The film stars Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal, who portray Lionel and David, two men who fall in love while capturing the voices and music of Americans during WWI.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform as a background actor in a scene set in 1910s Malaga Island.
  • Follow directions from the director and assistant directors on set.
  • Work closely with the film's production team to ensure historical accuracy in depiction.
  • Maintain professionalism on set at all times.

Requirements:

  • Ages 6-18 years old.
  • Must be Black or of Mixed Ethnic background to fit the historical context of the scene.
  • Local to the NJ/NY area or able to self-report to filming locations.
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
  • Available for filming on 3/12, 3/13, or 3/14 in Wawayanda, NJ, and for costume fitting on 3/4 or 3/8 in Carlstadt, NJ.
  • Must be comfortable working in a set that portrays historical events and themes.
  • Previous acting experience is a plus but not required.

Compensation:

  • $208 for an 8-hour workday.
  • Transportation to and from Manhattan to filming locations provided.
  • Hotel accommodations provided by production for filming in Wawayanda, NJ.

Additional Information: This background role is covered by the SAG-AFTRA CBA and is subject to a Preference of Employment provision. "The History of Sound" is not just a film, but a journey through love, loss, and memory, promising a profound cinematic experience.
