'Top Gun Maverick' earns 1 Billion Dollars in box office sales
'Top Gun: Maverick' is continuing its reign as the top film at box offices, with Tom Cruise's first billion-dollar global grossing movie.
The Top Gun sequel has become only the second film during this pandemic to reach $30 million in box office earnings. In a historic feat for Cruise and the film industry, 'Top Gun: Maverick' has made its way into No. 1 with just 31 days of release! The movie is going head-to-toe against another legendary figure--Elvis Presley.
The Cruise film is the highest-grossing movie of 2022 and has now passed Marvel's, Doctor Strange. The latter was previously on top with a total haul of USD 399 million at home. Still, after only three weeks, Maverick has collected more than that amount in just American box offices--and we're not even counting foreign receipts yet.
The long-awaited sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, 'Top Gun: Maverick' is a next-generation action movie set in the world of drone technology and dogfighting. The story follows Cruise's character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, as he mentors a new class of pilots at the Top Gun academy.
The film also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, and Lewis Pullman. It was directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks, Christopher McQuarrie, and Eric Warren Singer. While studio Paramount had initially intended to release 'Top Gun Maverick' in 2019, the film was pushed back to 2020 due to production delays.
