HBO’s ‘Barry’ Is Ending With Season Four

Date:

Prepare for the stunning conclusion of HBO’s beloved series ‘Barry,’ as season four will be its final installment.

It’s been announced that HBO’s much-loved dark comedy series Barry will wrap up its fourth season.

Series co-creator and star Bill Hader confirmed the news to Variety, stating that an “obvious ending” presented itself for the narrative arc of the series to come full circle. He emphasized that the project’s success was mainly due to its narrative and writing. Last season, many people were saying, ‘Why are you doing another season? It should have just ended.’”

Hader further noted that the narrative of Barry and his companions was still left open-ended by the conclusion of season three. “What happens in Season 4 is structurally radical in some ways, but it made sense for what I think the characters needed to go through and what I think the whole show is always kind of headed towards,” he excitedly divulged. “You realize, well, we could pad a lot of stuff and make a story. But if we’re going forward, it ends in Season 4.”

He remembers fondly the moment he informed HBO’s Amy Gravitt of his plans during the commencement of shooting for season four, letting her know how passionate he felt “like the story naturally ends after Season 4.” Gravitt agreed, “Every decision that he’s made about the story or the jump between seasons, has made sense — so I had to go with his gut on that.” She added, “Obviously, now that we’re here, we feel sentimental about it. But it feels like the right time to finish the show.”

HBO revealed a tantalizing teaser trailer for season four along with the announcement. We see that Barry has been tricked by his former acting teacher, Gene Cousineau, into going to prison.
