Dan Aykroyrd Bashes Ghostbusters Reboot Director

A year after Paul Feig’s female reboot of Ghostbusters was released, the director was bashed by the movie’s original stars, Dan Aykroyd, as the reason why there will not be a sequel.

In the weeks leading up to the movie, Aykroyd praised the movie and the cast. But, in an interview yesterday on the British talk show Sunday Brunch, he said he still loves the film.

But Aykroyd, who worked as an executive producer on the reboot, believes Feig allowed the film’s costs to go overboard with reshoots, which led to a lower return on investment for Sony Pictures at the box office. He also claimed Feig didn’t shoot scenes Aykroyd suggested they do, only to go back and order reshoots for them after test screenings.

“It cost too much, and Sony does not like to lose money. It made a lot of money around the world, but it just cost too much, making it economically not feasible to do another one.”

It is important to note that Ghostbusters, which received lukewarm reviews from critics, made only $229 million worldwide against a budget of $144 million.
