Benedict Cumberbatch Targeted By “Obsessed” Stalker

Benedict Cumberbatch has a stalker leaving creepy messages at his home.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch was harassed by a mysterious stalker.

  • Cumberbatch’s stalker left red ribbons around his home.

  • Cumberbatch called police after the Sherlock inspired messages scared his family

So there’s a guy stalking and harassing Benedict Cumberbatch. In fact, this guy is so weird he is also leaving creepy messages outside Benedict Cumberbatch’s home.

According to The Mirror, a super-fan has taken their love for Benedict Cumberbatch to a whole new level.

On at least two separate instances she left red ribbons around his house. The first time, she left a red ribbon on the actor’s car, the other was tied to a window of the house. They are assumed to be a reference to Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes.

The red ribbons left by the stalker are pretty important especially to fans of Sherlock Holmes. In A Study In Scarlet, Holmes’ partner Dr. John Watson uses a red ribbon to tie his case files together. The title of Arthur Conan Doyle’s book comes from a speech in which Sherlock Holmes tells Watson: “There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, isolate it, and expose every inch of it.”

But Benedict Cumberbatch, who currently lives in north London with his wife Sophie and baby son, was extremely concerned by the stalker. He ended up calling the police. And now the woman has been legally forbidden from contacting the actor. In addition, Cumberbatch stepped up security at the London theater where is currently performing.

Sources close to The Mirror say the fan went too far.

“Benedict is used to people mobbing him wherever he goes and he’s a good sport about it.

“But this individual has taken things to the next level and there was no option but to pursue official action.

“Turning up at professional events is one thing, but arriving uninvited at the family home is quite another.

“It might be that she thinks it’s harmless, but it does feel a bit sinister. Leaving red ribbons is obviously a bit of a game, but it does feel quite dark.”

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock co-star, Martin Freeman, and his wife were targeted, threatened and harassed online by an anonymous blogger. In fact, a blogger posted a shocking message to the couple which included a picture of a baseball bat covered in barbed wire. The picture was captioned with the words: “Shall we start prepping for a possible funeral?”
