Thanks to YouTube, thousands of TV series episodes are now available to watch online for free.

Ad-supported shows like ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ and ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ are included.

YouTube allows American users to stream thousands of free, ad-supported episodes of top TV shows for the first time. In a statement, YouTube announced that it would be streaming episodes from programs like Hell’s Kitchen and Unsolved Mysteries, immediately establishing them in opposition to over-the-air television and streaming services.

YouTube will add another 4,000 free TV episodes to its streaming library in July, including the existing 1,500 films. Of course, advertising for movies like Gone in Sixty Seconds, Runaway Bride, and Legally Blonde is only available in the United States. The site’s combination of dozens of episodes from various shows is tapping into the binge-watching culture that many streaming services like Netflix use to gain traction.

This is yet another effort by YouTube to compete with other platforms on material availability. There’s no word on whether or how far this plan will spread outside of the United States.
