HBO renews ‘Westworld’ for season 4.

Before the end of season 3, HBO renewed ‘Westworld’ for a fourth season.

“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

Season 3 debuted only a few weeks ago and the final episode is set to air on May 3rd.  The TV series is based on a 1970s movie that explores artificial consciousness and the question of free will.

The TV series was created for television including Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, who are executive producers along with Denise Thé, J.J. Abrams, Athena Wickham, Richard J. Lewis, and Ben Stephenson. Kilter Films and Bad Robot Productions produced in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The season 3 cast includes Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, and Jeffrey Wright, with newcomers including Tessa Thomspon, Aaron Paul, and Vincent Cassel.

Despite the decision to renew the series for another season, ratings have dropped since season 2. According to Nielsen data reported by Variety, the series is down about 50% in viewership compared to last season.
