Tyler Perry’s movie studio deal is on ice after the Fort McPherson deal fails to close.
Creator, writer, actor, producer, director, and filmmaker Tyler Perry is backing out of a deal to redevelop Fort McPherson. According to reports, Tyler Perry was supposed to change the former Army fort in into a motion picture studio now the actor is backing out of the Fort McPherson deal. The deal was supposed to expand Tyler Perry Studios operations on more than 1,000 acres.

The person, who declined to be named because the person was not authorized to comment, said the sale process at Fort McPherson has taken too long and Perry needs to quickly move forward with plans to expand his production base. The person said it is not clear if talks could resume in the future, but Perry is focused on the Douglas land.
A break-up of the would-be deal casts doubt on the future of the property, which sits a few miles south of downtown and has sat largely vacant since the post closed in 2011. [via]

Authorities planned on using a life sciences campus, but plans were halted when Tyler Perry came forward to say that he was interested in developing the property into a movie studio. In June, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed announced the city and Tyler Perry were working together to turn the 488-acre area. Development plans were projected for October 2015 but, closing dates have not been scheduled.

Tyler Perry was going to purchase 330 acres for a studio complex and tourist attraction for $30 million. The remaining property, the size of Atlantic Station, was going to be used for future development and turned into a VA clinic.
