Get ready to sing your favorite songs from the 1980s as BET plans their first music-focused scripted movie.

The Viacom-owned cable network is planning a New Edition miniseries, the network announced on Monday. Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant have signed on to co-produce the film, which is being developed as a three-night mini series.

But, Bobby Brown, the original New Edition cast member, will not be involved in the biopic.

The new mini-series will be written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket) and co-produced by the band’s longtime manger Brooke Payne. The untitled New Edition project will be BET’s first scripted music focused TV movie.

The movie will be told through the band’s eyes starting from their time in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to traveling to Hollywood.

“We are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one’s for you,” the band said in a statement.

New Edition is best known for their songs “Candy Girl,” “Cool It Now,” “Mr. Telephone Man” and “All For Love,” among others.

Bobby Brown didn’t have the best of times with the group. Bobby Brown was part of the company’s rise to fame and was with the group from its beiginning in 1978 – 1986, before leaving and returning for its 1996 – 1997 run and departing again before returning in 2002.

New Edition launched its six core members to Hollywood’s A-List, with all of them finding success in different avenues in and outside of music.

This is great news for BET. Recently, the creators of ‘The Game’ and ‘Being Mary Jane’ announced that they will be leaving the network in order to create new TV series for Warner Bros. Television.
