Casting Call: Performers for VELOUR: A DRAG SPECTACULAR
Job Description:
TBD Casting Co., in collaboration with La Jolla Playhouse and Tectonic Theater Project, is excited to announce casting calls for "VELOUR: A DRAG SPECTACULAR". This immersive theatrical experience is inspired by the life and art of Sasha Velour, a genderfluid artist who rose from a small-town child to a globally-renowned drag superstar. The production is set to be a captivating collage of projection mapping, video animation, lip-sync performances, and powerful personal narratives. We are in search of three dynamic queer nightlife performers to join this world premiere event.
Job Responsibilities:
Deliver mesmerizing performances, with a focus on drag, but possibly including burlesque, ballroom, and other queer performance art forms.
Participate in lip-sync battles and deliver compelling storytelling through movement and expression.
Work collaboratively with the director, choreographer, and other cast members.
Attend all rehearsals and perform in all scheduled shows.
Engage with innovative multimedia elements, such as projection mapping and video animation.
Requirements:
Must identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, specifically within the queer nightlife scene.
Strong stage presence and the ability to captivate an audience.
Experience in drag, burlesque, ballroom, or other related performance arts.
Openness to sharing personal narratives and integrating them into the performance.
Must be based in the U.S., with a special call for San Diego-based performers.
Availability to commit to the summer schedule at La Jolla Playhouse.
Compensation:
Competitive pay based on experience.
Potential for media exposure and involvement in a high-profile theatrical production.
Opportunity to work with renowned artists and creators in the field.
