The Jeffrey Dahmer series 'Monster' has become one of Netflix's most successful English TV shows. Fans of Netflix's "Dahmer," the disturbing drama series that stars Evan Peters as the notorious murderer cannibal, are continuing to binge-watch it in record numbers. Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now. Netflix's English TV Top 10 list for the third week in a row was dominated by Ryan Murphy's "Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story," with 205.33 million hours viewed for the week of Oct. 3-9. That means the limited series is now Netflix's second most popular English-language program ever, with 701.37 million hours watched after four weeks on the platform, behind only Shonda Rhimes' "Bridgerton" seasons 1 and 2, which have each garnered more watch time than seasons 1 and 2 of Shonda Rhimes' "Bridgerton." In its first four weeks on Netflix, “Dahmer” has outshone seasons 1 and 2 of Shonda Rhimes' "Bridgerton." The record for most Netflix TV hours watched in the first four weeks still belongs to “Squid Game,” the South Korean hit that garnered 1.65 billion views in its initial 28 days on air. The 10-part series "Monster," which came out September 21st of this year, tells the story of Milwaukee serial killer Dahmer from the perspectives of his victims. In total, 17 men and boys were murdered between 1978 and 1991 by Dahmer. According to Netflix's description of the show, in addition to "the systemic racism and institutional failures" of the Wisconsin police, the series also explores how these motivated "one of America's most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade." “Monster” has been famous among Netflix members — but reviewers have panned the show, which currently has a 52% critics’ score on Rotten Tomato. Variety TV critic Caroline Framke called the limited series “predictable,” adding, “It’s a grim, sepia-toned slog that rarely justifies its own existence.” On the film side, on Netflix's Top 10 English Films list, Ryan Murphy-produced horror movie "Mr. Harrigan's Phone" debuted at No. 2 with 35.42 million hours watched after its Oct. 5 debut, according to the streamer. Ana de Armas's film, "Blonde," about Marilyn Monroe, gathered17.41 million hours viewed during the week of Oct. 3-9 (and 54.75 million since its Sept. 28 release). The chart-topper for the same time period, "Luckiest Girl Alive" starring Mila Kunis and based on Jessica Knoll's bestseller, garnered 43.08 million views (ranking in the Top 10 internationally 91 countries). Meanwhile, Netflix users were enthusiastic about the "Conversations With a Killer" documentary series, with “The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes” (31.4 million minutes seen) and “The John Wayne Gacy Tapes” (8.86 million hours viewed) both cracking the Top 10 for the week on the English TV chart. Mike Flanagan's recent horror program, which recently broke the Guinness World Record for most jump scares in a premiere episode, also made it to the Top 10. “The Empress,” a German historical drama about the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, maintained its No. 1 position with 59.43 million hours seen across non-English TV series. “High Water,” a Polish crime drama, debuted in the No. 2 spot with 45.84 million hours watched. Netflix’s Korean shows were still popular among viewers last week, with “Little Women” (23.58 million hours), “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” (12.22 million hours), “Alchemy of Souls” (9.78 million hours), “Young Lady and Gentleman” (8.52 million hours) and “Narco-Saints”(7 .58 million hours) all making it onto the non-English TV Top 10 list for the week of Oct 3-9th. FX's 'American Sports Story' casting call and talent search for the lead role of Aaron Hernandez. 'American Sports Story' casting directors are now casting speaking roles for the upcoming FX series 'American Sports Story'. FX producers are seeking and hiring for the following role: Aaron Hernandez - This character is a Hispanic/Italian male to play ages 18 - 27. In trying to hide secrets that would ruin an athlete of his stature, Aaron becomes a chameleon who can switch from NFL superstar to adoring father to paranoid murderer. SERIES LEAD. About FX's 'American Sports Story': Ryan Murphy to Write, Direct the "American Sports Story" and Love Story Anthologies for FX. The first stories in the two 'American Story' spinoffs will be Aaron Hernandez and John F. Kennedy Jr., while the prospective fourth season of 'Crime Story' will examine Studio 54. FX has ordered two American Story spinoffs — anthology series American Sports Story and American Love Story — as John Landgraf, the network's president, is already working with Murphy on a potential fourth season of American Crime Story, which will cover Studio 54. Join Project Casting to access jobs you can apply to right now. American Sports Story will broaden the scope of the franchise by recounting a significant event in sports through a different lens. The first season is inspired by the Boston Globe and Wondery podcast, Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc. It follows the journey of a former New England Patriots tight end, convicted of murder, then committed suicide while in prison. The series will explore the different parts of his life, such as his family, career, and suicide, and how they have impacted sports and American culture. Stu Zicherman (The Americans) will write the script and executive produce the show alongside Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, And Wondery's Hernan Lopez and Marshall Lewy as well as The Boston Globe's Linda Pizzuti Henry and Ira Napoliello. American Love Story will explore the quick courtship and marriage of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. Though their relationship was highly publicized from the beginning, media coverage only increased after they married, putting immense strain on the couple. When their families' problems and the demands of their jobs drove them to despair, his private jet plunged into the sea on a vast summer night off Massachusetts' coast. Murphy, Falchuk, Jacobson, Simpson, and Woodall executive produce the project. There has yet to be a writer revealed. The fourth cycle in American Crime Story, which returns in September with the highly anticipated Impeachment season, will be titled Studio 54. It will focus on Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager. They, in 1977, converted their midtown Manhattan disco into an international mecca of nightlife for the rich and famous — notorious for its lavish parties, music, sex, and drugs. With Rubell and Schrager's meteoric rise came their spectacular downfall less than three years later when the impresarios were convicted of tax fraud. After starting with American Horror Story, and growing to encompass American Crime Story, the franchise now totals five shows. This includes FX on Hulu's episodic anthology American Horror Stories. The American Story Franchise, as FX is calling it, has collectively earned 141 Emmy nominations and 33 trophies thus far. "When Ryan Murphy came to us with these two spinoffs and the stories for American Sports Story and American Love Story, we immediately jumped at the opportunity," FX chairman Landgraf said in a statement Friday, ahead of his virtual time with the Television Critics Association. "What began with American Horror Story has spawned some of the best and most indelible programs of our generation, most notably American Crime Story, which created a beautiful partnership between Ryan, Brad, Nina, and Brad. Their alchemy and the way in which they construct these stories are done with such care, such clarity, and such dimensionality that create the magnificence that is The People v. O.J. Simpson, The Assassination of Gianni Versace, and Impeachment. We can't wait to see what comes next." After leaving 20th Television in 2018, Murphy entered into a five-year $300 million deal with Netflix. Some of the things he has delivered to the streaming company are The Prom, Pray Away, The Boys in the Band, The Politician, Hollywood, and Halston. His upcoming project is Ratched which is being produced by 20th TV. For Disney, Murphy produces Fox's 911 and its Lonestar spinoff, FX's American Horror Story. Recently, Pose wrapped after three seasons. This month, American Horror Story returns with its 10th season: Double Feature. Last year, due to the show's success in ushering in a new era of anthologies, it was renewed for three additional seasons taking it through its 13th cycle. "More than a decade ago, Ryan Murphy expressed interest in expanding the American Horror Story model to be able to tell different American stories, which have long captivated so many of us. It was a brilliant idea. Adding these new installments to the franchise will enable Ryan, Brad, Nina, and Brad and their talented teams to tackle riveting stories outside of the horror and crime genres," said Dana Walden, Walt Disney TV entertainment chairman. "This group has done a truly amazing job of examining situations we think we know everything about and making us realize that there was so much more there than what we had been told. Many of us at 20th Television, FX, and FXP have worked together on this franchise since the very beginning, and it has been a privilege. It's been an incredible partnership and collaboration, and we're looking forward to these new chapters." Murphy is represented by CAA and Paul Hastings attorney Craig Emanuel. Jacobson, Simpson, and their Color Force-based FX Productions team are with Cawaisa Ziffren Brittenham. Zicherman is repped by UTA, Mosaic Media Group, and McKuin Frankel Entertainment. FX's 'American Sports Story' Open Casting Call Bright/Daniels Casting are casting the series “American Sports Story” by Color Force and Ryan Murphy for the FX Network. How Casting Director Allison Jones Discovers Undiscovered Actors Join Project Casting to access casting calls you can apply to right now. Allison Jones cast several of Hollywood's most famous people. Celebrities she snatched from obscurity, genuine teenagers who suddenly became real actors, and complete ensembles repurposed by apparent alchemy came to life. Those starry-eyed stories are something else entirely with Jones: they're all true. The casting director has an impressive stable of credits to her name, including Oscar-winners like Jon Voight in "Midnight Cowboy" (1969), Robert De Niro in "Taxi Driver" (1976), and Christopher Walken in "The Deer Hunter" (1978). But Jones didn't just find them first; she changed their lives. When it comes to casting, Jones has an eye for talent-spotting the potential in people and bringing it to the surface. It's a skill that has served her well throughout her career, from working on small independent films to big-budget studio productions. Jones may not be able to claim a household name or accolades, but she has built an impressive career by mining the inner circle of Hollywood's elite. You know her work even if you don't know her name, having molded the Judd Apatow crew from scratch (she discovered Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, James Franco, and Seth Rogen), or cast the likes of Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, and Ryan Gosling in their earliest roles. In a town built on illusion, Allison Jones is one of the few people who can make things happen for real. “Allison was my co-pilot, we sat together and crafted the tone [of ‘Booksmart’] through casting,” Wilde told IndieWire. “She understood that this movie would rest on a framework based on the specificity of character. She has a skill for finding people who have a natural essence that is unique, and I think that seeks out authenticity above all else. What she’s willing to do is work harder, search harder, and listen more, and that allows you to see such an incredible range of actors.” In many ways, this is a tale of two halves, as it tracks the progress of both Sam and Jack. The way they met is similar to the tales you've read before that describe how their new acquaintance changed someone's life. Allison Jones isn't just a star-maker; she's also a star-finder, looking for potential new talent. “She knows how to work from a place of simple emotional truth,” fellow casting director and Academy President David Rubin told IndieWire of Jones’ work. “No pushing for laughs, no behavior that seems outsized for the moment at hand. Just honesty. That’s the great talent of casting director Allison Jones at work. She knows exactly who can be funny in the ‘real world’ and wring laughs from the most awkward and tragic circumstances. These choices are not accidents.” Jones was tasked with finding a possible love interest for Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang's "Master of None" series, but she recruited Lena Waithe, who was then mostly known for her writing career. Waithe's presence in the series represented a turning point for her character and the show as a whole. The choice to continue or end Goodbye, Mary Jane was not only significant for the series' future, but it also established the course for Waithe, who would win an Emmy for writing an episode about her character coming out at Thanksgiving and go on to create Showtime's "The Chi." Jones is more than just a casting director; she's an agent of change, someone who not only helps others find their place in the industry but who also creates opportunities for them to shine. She's helped to launch the careers of some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and there's no one better to bring new blood to the table. You deserve to get discovered.
