About HBO’s ‘DMZ’:
Deadline reports Rosario Dawson will star in the HBO Max Pilot ‘DMZ’ from Ava DuVernay. The Warner Bros. Television series is based on the DC comic book series from Brian Wood and will be directed by Ava DuVernay who will executive produce and show run the show. Writer Roberto Patino will write the series.
The comic book series is published by the Vertigo franchise and it takes place in the future where America is stuck in a bitter civil war, leaving Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Rosario Dawson will play Alma Ortego, a medico who goes on a journey of saving lives while looking for her son. She fights with gangs, militias, warlords, and influencers who control the is new world order, she becomes the hope that the world is missing.
‘DMZ’ is DuVernay’s second DC project. She is currently working on a movie adaptation of Jack Kirby’s ‘New Gods’. DMZ will be produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Dawson recently finished working on the USA Network series ‘Briarpatch‘, which filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She is expected to have a one-year deal for the ‘Briarpatch’ series.
This is not Dawson’s first comic book production. She appeared in the ‘Sin City’ movies. She also appeared in the Netflix Marvel series including ‘Daredevil‘, ‘Iron Fist’, ‘The Defenders’, and ‘Luke Cage’. She is also the voice of Wonder Woman on several DC animated productions, the voice of Batgirl in The Lego Batman Movie. Most recently, she appeared int he final season of The CW’s ‘Jane the Virgin’ and ‘Zombieland: Double Tap’, which also filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.

According to IMDB, Alexis Booth and Mike Page are the executives in charge of casting for the ‘DMZ’ HBO series. Alexis Booth is most known for working on the casting department for several hit movies including ‘X-Men: First Class’, ‘Jack and Jill’, and ‘Wrecked’. According to Mike Page’s biography, Page worked ABC’s ‘Brothers & Sisters’ and in pre-production for the feature film ‘Twilight’. Casting credits include working on hit shows such as Weeds, Community, Arrow, Raising Hope, My Name is Earl, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, The Defenders, The Ex List, Alcatraz & Fringe.
