Tupac Shakur Bio-Pic is in Production and John Singleton is Set to Direct

It looks like the Tupac Shakur biopic is finally in development.

Years after it was first announced and developed, a biopic of the late rapper Tupac Shakur a new production team is financing the project. Now, the long-awaited project has found a director: John Singleton. The Oscar nominated director for 1991's critically acclaimed feature film "Boyz n the Hood" will work on the new Tupac Shakur biopic. Singleton, who worked with Shakur in 1993's "Poetic Justice" has signed on to direct, rewrite, and produce the untitled biopic. The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that Singleton will start working on the script immediately, and hopes to film the project this summer. Tupac was only 25 when he was murdered in the crowded Las Vegas streets in 1996. The biopic, which is set to be produced by Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, will have rights to his full musical collection. In 2011 there was an effort to produce the Tupac Shakur biopic. But the project later fell through. This attempt is to be more secure with the Oscar award nominated director, John Singleton. "Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with," Singleton said. "His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is as important to my generation."
