Here are 5 things you missed in The Walking Dead “Consumed”
In The Walking Dead’s “Consumed” we finally see what Carol and Daryl have been up to for the past few weeks. We find the two heroes on their journey to Atlanta to find Beth and the cars with the white crosses. While the episode was not full of action, it did reveal a lot about the characters and explains how Carol ended up in Grady Memorial Hospital.

1. Daryl is running away from his past
Early in the episode we learned that Carol had to find a shelter with Sophia at some point in the past, to escape abuse. When the two are looking for a place to stay, we briefly see a cop of ‘Treating Survivors of Child Abuse’ lying on a table. Later in the episode the book falls out of Daryl’s bag when Carol picks it up. This is the first time we see that Daryl has suffered some sort of child abuse when he was younger. We know that as a kid, Daryl and Merle’s mother died and left the two brothers to be abused by their abusive father. This is the first time that it looks as though Daryl is trying to get beyond his abusive past.
2. The walker on the ground
After Carol and Daryl fall off the bridge in the fan, there’s a walker crawling on the ground. It is a refrence to the one Rick sees in the pilot. It is the iconic zombie without the lower body! The camera lingers on the walker and you can see that it’s missing its entire lower body- a definitely reference to the infamous bicycle lady walker Rick comes across and later puts down in the first episode.

3. They have not gone really far
This episode showed that even though Rick and the others have traveled for miles, they have not gotten really far from Atlanta. It is almost as though they have made little to no progress in their zombie apocalypse journey.
4. There were a ton of callbacks to previous episodes
There were several scenes in “Consumed” that showed changes from Season 1 to Season 5. For example, in “Consumed” the highway looked a little worse after it was bombed, though it definitely is a tribute to the pilot episode. The dark and gloomy colors shows that things have gotten worse since for the survivors of the zombie apocalypse. Another example is the tank Rick was trapped in, in episode 1. Though the tank may not be the exact same one, it is certainly a reference to that moment.

5. TV show references
There was a TV show reference to Lost, when Daryl and Carol investigate the white van that is hanging off the side of the bridge. They climbed in the van to look for clues but were forced to tip over the fan to escape a small hoard of walkers. On the dashboard of the van is a statue of Mary, similar to the ones used to smuggle heroin in the show Lost. In both The Walking Dead and Lost, the van crash lands.
The second reference was to The X-Files. When Daryl and Carol meet Noah, Daryl traps him under a bookcase, and then he starts smokes a cigarette as Noah begs for help. The brand Daryl smokes ar Morley’s, the infamous cigarette brand from The X-Files.
