Netflix To Enforce Password Sharing Fees in the US in the Coming Weeks

Date:

In the weeks ahead, Netflix is set to institute fees for users who share their passwords with others in the US.

In the coming weeks, Netflix will initiate a password-sharing fee across the United States.

In their quarterly letter, the streamer declared to shareholders that they would begin charging fees in Q2 2023 and do a worldwide launch of this feature. Despite its yet-to-be-announced price point, Netflix has foreshadowed that its financial results will be affected in the second and third quarters. “…we shifted the timing of the broad launch from late Q1 to Q2. While this means that some of the expected membership growth and revenue benefit will fall in Q3 rather than Q2, we believe this will result in a better outcome for our members and business,” the streamer exclaimed.

“We’re pleased with the most recent launches of paid sharing, and while we could have launched broadly in Q1, we found opportunities to improve the experience for members,” Additionally, the letter went on to say… “We learn more with each rollout, and we’ve incorporated the latest learnings, which we think will lead to even better results.”
