Muschietti Siblings Partner with Skydance to Launch Genre Label ‘Nocturna’

Date:

Key Takeaways:
• Director Andy Muschietti and his producer sister Barbara Muschietti are partnering with Skydance to launch a genre label called Nocturna.
• Nocturna aims to produce two high-quality genre films annually for global audiences for both theatrical and streaming releases.
• The first feature under Nocturna will be ‘They Will Kill You,’ set to be directed by Kirill Sokolov.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti, the intellectual forces behind ‘Mama’ and the billion-dollar grossing adaptations of Stephen King’s ‘It’, have announced a collaborative venture with production firm Skydance. Their project revolves around launching a genre label named Nocturna, aiming at generating high-quality genre movies that excite and engage global audiences in theatres or streaming platforms. Nocturna seeks to churn out two films annually. This development was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Introducing Nocturna with ‘They Will Kill You’

“The first feature that will grace the screen under our new label Nocturna is a film dubbed ‘They Will Kill You,'” announced the Muschietti siblings. The movie, scripted by Alex Litvak and Kirill Sokolov, will see the latter in the director’s seat, familiar territory given his prior experience with the Russian action comedy ‘Why Don’t You Just Die’ in 2019.

‘They Will Kill You’ is presented as a horror feature woven with Sokolov’s signature black humor. The storyline follows a woman who signs up as a housekeeper in a puzzling high-rise in New York City, oblivious to the web of disappearances connected to the building over the years.

Voices of Anticipation and Assurance

Speaking about Nocturna, the Muschiettis seemed ready to bring to life a new space for genre films. They expressed their excitement to deliver the full range of emotions that their movies offer: heart, humor, and horror.

Supporting the new venture, Dana Goldberg, Skydance’s Chief Creative Officer, stated, “Andy and Barbara are visionary filmmakers who have mastered the art of scary event movies that connect with global audiences. David and I, along with the entire Skydance team, are thrilled to partner with them on the launch of Nocturna. It’s fitting that ‘They Will Kill You’ will be our first project, as it perfectly encapsulates Nocturna’s mission of delivering unique and entertaining horror experiences that will dwell in the audiences’ nightmares for years.”

Behind the Management of Nocturna

Running the show at Nocturna are Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder, who step in as co-heads of film. These industry experts, along with the Muschiettis, Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, and previous Orion executive Dan Kagan, will be producing the films to ensure quality storytelling and widespread audience engagement.

Fans Welcome the New Era

The announcement of the Muschietti siblings heading up a new genre label at Skydance has provoked keen anticipation among movie enthusiasts. The burgeoning hopes for Nocturna reflect their trust in the Muschietti brand, backed by their success in past projects.

Audience opinions about Nocturna rage with optimism and excitement. Will the Muschietti siblings and Skydance meet their expectations with ‘They Will Kill You’ and subsequent projects? Only time will tell as viewers eagerly anticipate the arrival of Nocturna’s first genre feature.
