Mattel Secures Toy Licensing Renewal with Warner Bros. Discovery Following ‘Barbie’ Box Office Hit

Date:

After the overwhelming success of the Barbie movie at the box office, Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery have decided to continue their successful collaboration for the foreseeable future.

The renowned toy company Mattel has officially renewed its licensing deal with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. This renewal solidifies Mattel’s position as the exclusive licensee for toys, dolls, vehicles, and games for over 50 of Warner Bros. Discovery’s famous brands and franchises.

The iconic DC Comics universe and the beloved Harry Potter franchise are among the many Warner Bros. brands that Mattel creates toys for. Additionally, Mattel produces merchandise for well-known TV shows like Ted Lasso, Friends, and Seinfeld. Having been a trusted licensing partner to Warner Bros. for the past two decades, Mattel takes immense pride in developing products that feature fans’ favorite Warner Bros. characters and storylines, as expressed by Nick Karamanos, senior vice president of entertainment partnerships at Mattel.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Warner Bros. for the past 20 years, creating products that delight fans with their favorite Warner Bros. characters and storylines,” said Nick Karamanos. “Mattel is honored to be the chosen partner for the world’s largest and most successful entertainment companies, and we are excited to continue this partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery as we drive our businesses forward together.”

Indeed, licensing agreements work both ways, as Warner Bros. is the Barbie movie’s producer and distributor, based on Mattel’s trendy product line. The film, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, has been a tremendous box office hit, grossing over $162 million and still counting. This phenomenal success highlights the immense value of intellectual property tied to toys.

It’s worth noting that the renewed deal between Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery primarily focuses on toys based on Warner Bros. movies rather than new toy-centric films. Nevertheless, this partnership underlines the significance of collaborations between film and TV studios and global toy companies.

Pam Lifford, the president of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Brands, Franchises, and Experiences, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. She stated, “Warner Bros. Discovery has always been committed to delivering extraordinary products and experiences to audiences worldwide, and through our collaboration with Mattel, we’ve been able to extend our beloved characters and stories beyond the screen. This partnership has been a testament to the power of storytelling and innovation, and together, we look forward to exploring new horizons and creating even more inspiring products that will delight fans of all ages.”

In conclusion, the successful partnership between Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery has been solidified through the renewal of their licensing deal, promising exciting and captivating products for fans across the globe. The triumph of the Barbie movie has underscored the immense value of merging entertainment studios with global toy companies, creating a promising path ahead for both entities.
