Lionsgate is Heading to Atlanta, Georgia

Date:

Lionsgate, a major production studio, proudly announces its appointment as the leading tenant of Douglas County’s brand-new complex.

Lionsgate, a renowned Hollywood production studio, is set to take the lead as a key tenant at Douglas County’s new film and television complex.

On Wednesday, the Atlanta Business Chronicle was the first to report it, and a Lionsgate spokesman subsequently confirmed with The Atlanta.

Journal-Constitution that all information provided was accurate. Lionsgate’s exact digital space allocation and contract length must be clarified, as the representative refused to divulge further details.

Lionsgate backed Tyler Perry’s “Madea” movies, which had theatrical releases, and filmed three of their four “Hunger Games” films in Atlanta. The studio has distributed and produced several films in Atlanta, including 2012’s “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” 2017’s “All Eyez On Me,” and 2018’s critically-acclaimed comedy Uncle Drew.

Our organization has decided to collaborate with Great Point Studios, a media-focused financial institution specializing in film and television infrastructure projects. This union is especially noteworthy as the two entities previously partnered on studio space initiatives for Lionsgate in New York and New Jersey.

Holder Properties has announced the launch of Great Point Studios, a 40-acre facility with an estimated cost of $160 million that will act as a film and television production hub. The first stages are slated to open in late 2023. Spanning an impressive 480,000 square feet, this facility boasts 11 sound stages for the perfect filming experience.

Georgia is experiencing an extraordinary surge in studios due to its lucrative tax credits, attractive enough to persuade leading Hollywood production companies to film here.

Discover the newest addition to Athens: Athena Studios! This year, Electric Owl Studios near Indian Creek MARTA station and Gray Television’s Assembly Studios in Doraville will be unveiled! Fayetteville’s Trilith Studio is thrilled to be constructing eight more soundstages, bringing their total number of stages up to 24. Cinelease at Three Ring Studios in Covington has also begun expanding and modernizing its facilities.

This isn’t the first time a major production company has inked an extended deal with a local film studio. NBCUniversal, the media conglomerate encompassing networks such as Bravo and USA Network and their streaming platform Peacock, will supervise Gray’s Assembly Studios when it opens in June. Not only are they planning to produce films and TV content for themselves, but they are also leasing out any remaining space to other production companies.

Previously, companies such as Netflix and Apple TV+ have concluded pacts of limited duration with regional studios.

In 2017, only AMC made the bold and innovative decision to invest in metro Atlanta’s budding film industry, buying Riverwood Studios in Senoia outright.

Great Points Studio will be prominent in The Trails, an ambitious $350 million mixed-use project in Douglas County that includes residential homes, accommodations, and retail outlets.
