Initial Reactions for 'Wonka' Praise Timothée Chalamet as "Infinitely Charming" and the Film "Shockingly Good"

The initial reactions to Timothée Chalamet‘s highly anticipated Wonka are officially here. The prequel to the famous Charlie and the Charlie Factory has received its first round of critics. The film seems to have garnered an overwhelmingly positive review from most, winning over critics.

Directed by Paul King, the cast sees Chalamet star as the famous chocolatier. The film is set years before Wonka opened his world-renowned chocolate factory and follows the young man as he opens his first shop. The film also sees Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Matt Lucas, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant cast alongside Chalamet.

Critics like Courtney Howard were surprised, calling Wonka “a winning confection” and describing it as a film “with perfect amounts of charm, whimsy & poignancy, powered by pure imagination & bright, nimble musical numbers. Timothée Chalamet is a charisma factory. His full committal is intoxicating. Hugh Grant in exceptional IDGAF mode.” Others agreed that Chalamet’s charm was infectious and the film was filled with joy, making it an excellent to-be holiday classic. The film is expected to make $35 million to USD 40 million at the pre-Christmas box office. Wonka opens worldwide on December 15.
