‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Will Conclude the Franchise, Director Says

James Gunn confirms Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 be the end of the franchise.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn announced the third movie of this trilogy will mark the final installment, which audiences will see with the original team on screen. 

The first Guardians of the Galaxy film took the Marvel Cinematic Universe by storm in 2014 and introduced audiences by the Star-Lord character played by Chris Pratt, Gamora by Zoe SaldanaDave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Racoon and Vin Diesel as Groot.

The second film arrived in 2017, the characters reprised their roles for a larger Marvel storyline within Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. 

In a recent interview on Deadline‘s Hero Nation podcast, Gunn said, “This is the end for us, the last time people will see this team of Guardians,” as he shared that this will be the final chapter of the intergalactic franchise. Gunn also took the opportunity to tease fans of what to expect,

“It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark, and different from what people might be expecting it to be.

I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to release in 2023.
