Marvel Studios has hired Shawn Levy to direct Ryan Reynolds in “Deadpool 3.”
According to press reports, Marvel Studios has now signed on Oscar-nominated director Shawn Levy to helm Deadpool 3.
Action star Ryan Reynolds will once again collaborate with Joe Manganiello to play the titular character in the third installment of the Deadpool franchise, which is expected to be released in 2022. The sequel to Deadpool 2 will also be Wade’s (Reynolds) debut appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reese and Wernick, who wrote both Deadpool movies, are also returning to pen the script for the threequel.
Levy is best known for directing all four films in the Night at the Museum franchise as well as Real Steel and Strangers Things. He is currently working on Free Guy, an action-comedy starring Reynolds that is set for release on July 3, 2020.
With the signing of Levy, Marvel Studios is putting all its eggs in the Reynolds basket and gambling that the popular actor-director can finally bring the Deadpool franchise to box office glory. The first two Deadpool movies were modest hits but failed to break even domestically, earning just over $1.5 billion in total ticket sales. However, with China now being the world’s second-largest film market, Marvel may be hoping that Levy can help Deadpool 3 perform better overseas.

Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to share the news noting, “The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby.”
