The timelapse video shows viewers the incredible special effects makeup that allowed Fraser to represent his character, Charlie, realistically.
To bring the 600-pound character to life, Brendan Fraser was dedicated enough to gain weight for the role and endure six hours of make-up application daily. To accurately portray the morbidly obese English teacher, Fraser was required to wear bulky prosthetics that made shooting uncomfortable and intense. To keep up with this heat, he had five bags of ice delivered daily to stay calm on set.
Furthermore, Fraser spent many months learning from a dance instructor to portray an overweight person’s movements realistically. Fraser aspired to represent the lifestyle of people struggling with obesity genuinely; therefore, he consulted with the Obesity Action Coalition to better comprehend their physical and psychological state.
