Key Takeaways:
• The second season of the Prime Video TV series adaptation, “Fallout,” is set to start production.
• After filming in New York and Utah for the first season, production will relocate to California, driven by a significant tax break.
• The California Film Commission recently bestowed $152 million in tax incentives to several TV series, including “Fallout”.
• The generous tax credit amounts to $25 million for “Fallout,” filming its forthcoming season in California.

Prime Video’s hit adaption of the “Fallout” video game series will not start streaming until April 12th, but the team is already planning for a vibrant second season. After the initial season’s filming in New York and Utah, Variety reports that the production is moving to California for the sequel. The switch in location, however, is not to capitalize on the picturesque filming locations of the Golden State, but to leverage an advantageous tax scheme.

The California Film Commission recently granted $152 million in tax incentives to a variety of high-profile TV shows. “Fallout” made the coveted list, and for relocating its production to California for the following season, it will pocket a hefty $25 million in state tax credits.

Matching the dynamism of the gaming franchise it embodies, “Fallout” TV series will muster a large production budget. As per Variety, the approved budget is a significant $153 million for the forthcoming season.

The Fallout Series Universe

The distinctive charm of the “Fallout” series lies in its post-apocalyptic narrative set in the future. This future, as envisaged by Americans of the late 1940s, ultimately ruins itself through a ghastly nuclear war in 2077. According to Polygon and verified by Vanity Fair interviews, the TV adaptation will tell an original, canonical story within the game’s universe. The thrilling plot unfolds in and around a fallout shelter in Los Angeles, signified as Vault 33 in the series.

With a rich backstory encompassing Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, and striking spin-offs, the inaugural game takes place 219 years post a nuclear war and positions itself in a dystopian Southern California. The assigned protagonist, the Vault Dweller, is faced with a life-threatening task restoring the broken water chip in their vault. What follows is an intense series of adventures as the Vault Dweller endeavours to dismantle a mutant group led by a grotesque entity known as the Master.

Behind the Scenes

The brains behind the “Fallout” series are showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner. They are working in collaboration with Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios, James Altman of Bethesda Softworks, and the team of Athena Wickham, Jonathan Nolan, and Lisa Joy from Kilter Films. Amazon Studios and Kilter Films are producing the series in partnership with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Certainly, prime talents such as Nolan also lent his creative prowess in directing the first three episodes.

The cast represents an assemblage of talent including Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, and many more. Characters traverse various experiences, from living in a subterranean vault to braving mutant animals and engaging in brutal combats. Each character adds depth and dimension to the series, making it a thrilling exploration of a dystopian world.

With season 2 already progressing into its developmental stages, fans of the “Fallout” franchise have exciting times ahead. The California tax credit scheme and the shifting of production to the Golden State make it even more fascinating as viewers eagerly await new episodes. The gaming world has embarked on a thrilling journey to Hollywood, and fans worldwide can’t wait to tune in.
