Producers are creating a reality series about traveling to Mars to colonize the Red Planet.
The private spaceflight project, Mars One
, is lead by Dutch billionaire and entrepreneur Bas Lansdrop
and was announced back in 2011 as a mission to send the world's first astronauts to Mars.
The plan was to put together a group of people who will go through rigorous training before traveling 300 million miles to Mars to establish the first human colony with no hope of return.
Endemol, a production company has now joined with Mars One as the exclusive production partner to document the different stages of the astronaut selection and training program.
With over 200,000 applicants, 705 candidates will be tested to the extreme and tested by scientists, and astronauts.
In order to qualify for the mission, individuals must meet a level of psychological and physical performance conditions required for the long distance voyage. But, no return trip from the planet is possible. Instead, Mars One
will send additional crews every two years to build the colony.
If you were interested in applying, the astronaut selection process is already underway. The first installments of the series is set to begin in early 2015 although no Television network has been announced.
