Netflix’s ‘Messiah’ Canceled After One Season

Date:

Netflix’sMessiah’ canceled after a single season.

On Thursday, Netflix confirmed the cancellation.

“It’s a very sad day today,” wrote actor Wil Traval, who played Will Mathers on the drama series, wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of #messiah I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different.”

The Wrap reports that one of the factors that went into the decision to cancel the show was the concern it could not be produced during the Coronavirus pandemic, due to the large international cast and filming overseas.

The 10-episode drama series starred Mehdi Dehbi as Al-Massih, a mysterious man who believe him to be the second coming. Michelle Monaghan starred opposite as Eva Geller, a CIA officer focused on proving Al-Massih is a con-man.

The first season ended in a cliffhanger so we will never know what will happen next.

The show had its fair share of controversy. In December 2019, it was announced in a press conference that The Royal Film Commission of Jordan requested Netflix to refrain streaming Messiah in the country due to the provocative subject matter and controversial religious content covered in the series.

In relevant news, in a recent report on actor’s compensation amid a Coronavirus outbreak, Deadline broke the news as to when Hollywood filmmakers plan on starting back production. At this time, many studios are evaluating filming for TV shows, and movies will start back this July 2020.
