The Obamas sign deal with Amazon’s ‘Audible’

President Barack Obama announced that he and Michelle are going into business with Audible, the Amazon-owned audio storytelling platform.

The Obamas’ media company, Higher Ground, has teamed up with Audible to produce a slate of audio projects. This deal marks an exclusive partnership between two major players within their respective industries that share similar goals – telling stories about people who are not typically heard or seen often enough from society’s perspective.

The two companies are working on an original show and have announced that the production will be made available across a wide range of podcast platforms, rather than being available only on audible.

The Obamas have found a new home for their podcasts. After negotiating an exclusive partnership with Spotify, which they had signed in 2019 but then refused to renew upon reaching its term last year – sources say that higher ground disagreed greatly on how many shows should feature past president/first lady tandems while also disagreeing over distribution methods. The two parties have reached an agreement recently, allowing them both freedom from obligations while still working together toward goals.

The Obamas currently resides in Washington, D.C. where they are working on their memoirs. President Obama is also working on a White House memoir while Michelle is writing a book about her time as First Lady.

Audible is an Amazon-owned audio storytelling platform that allows users to download, listen to, and buy audiobooks, radio and TV programs, and other digital content. The company was founded in 1995 by Don Katz and has been a subsidiary of Amazon since 2008.

Audible’s catalog includes over 200,000 titles. The company has partnerships with major publishers and content providers, including Hachette, HarperCollins, Penguin Random House, and Simon & Schuster.
