How fast and furious would you go in order to support your significant other’s dreams?

Like a scene straight out of a Vin Diesel Fast and Furious movie, one boyfriend push the pedal to the metal to make his girlfriend’s dreams come true.

A student drove over 100mph to get his girlfriend to an audition. According to reports,  drove 112mph to get his significant other to a casting call but now faces 40 hours of community service and is unable to drive for six months.

Kai-Wen Kelvin Chan, 20, of Christchurch, Australia, was convicted in the Timaru District Court on Tuesday for driving at a dangerous speed.

According to the police report, Chan was driving on November 11, when he was clocked by police at 112 mph. When he was stopped, Chan said he had been driving his girlfriend to an audition in Christchurch.

His attorney, Natali Wham, said Chan was a Malaysian student studying engineering at the University of Canterbury. She said Chan had been in Queenstown with his girlfriend and accepted his driving was a “stupid” idea.

“He was glad he was caught rather than having an accident.”

Chan had checked the long straight stretch of road before driving at that speed, Wham said.

That said, Chan had one previous conviction for careless driving.

Judge Joanna Maze told Chan it “didn’t matter that the road was straight and there was nobody else but the police officer in view”.

“You could have lost control of the vehicle, for any range of possible reasons.

“Not any of us is immune from making mistakes.”
