It looks like Zoolander 2 might actually happen.

Justin Theroux says ‘Zoolander 2‘ is a definite possibility and may actually start production shortly. Nowadays, the ‘Zoolander’ sequel is a rumor that never ends. In 2012, Ben Stiller revealed that he was open to do a Zoolander sequel. Two years later, Justin Theroux revealed to Vulture that a new Zoolander movie may be in the works.

According to Theroux, who is working on the new HBO TV series, The Leftovershe is working on a script with Ben Stiller and they will be getting together next month to discuss Zoolander’s newest look.

Are you guys still doing a sequel?

Yeah, we’ve got a script for the sequel, and we’ve just been in talks again. We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.

That’s great. It must be hard to coordinate everyone’s schedules.

It’s actually been a little hard with the show, but now I’m back full-time to dedicate time toward doing it. I met with Ben [Stiller] a couple times when I was in New York doing The Leftovers, and then I’m meeting again with him probably in September.

You’re going to direct it, right?

I don’t think I’m going to do it anymore. It really depends on whether the show gets picked up. If it gets picked up, then I don’t think I’ll have the time to do it. So it’ll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome. (Vulture)

But, are people really interested in a Zoolander sequel? It has nearly been fourteen years since Zoolander premiered and people’s taste of comedy constantly changes. With the release of Dumb and DumberEr (Dumb and Dumber 2) coming in a few months, it will definitely let Hollywood know if reboots of old comedies are worth it.
