Warner Bros. Announces Cancellation of ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Live-Action Series.

Warner Bros. has officially canceled the live-action series adaptation of ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ just two months after The CW formally announced its scrapping.

The project is no longer in development, and as reported by TVLine, The CW has returned the series to the studio due to ownership and strategic changes. Along with ‘The Powerpuff Girls,’ other projects such as the proposed Arrowverse spinoff ‘Justice U,’ the Archie Comics-inspired ‘Jack Chang,’ and the female-led Zorro reboot have also been returned to their respective studios. Earlier in May 2021, it was confirmed that Chloe Bennet from ‘Agents of SHIELD’ would play Blossom, Dove Cameron, from ‘Descendants’ would portray Bubbles, and Broadway actress Yana Perrault was cast as Buttercup.

The live-action adaptation aimed to follow Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup as disillusioned twenty-somethings, resentful of having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Setbacks in the studio prompted The CW to reshoot the pilot episode. Bennet’s departure from Blossom further prolonged the project’s timeline.
