At the Oscars, women have been consistently rewarded for portraying characters who conform to traditional gender roles. And when they do work outside the home, they’re often limited to blue collar jobs like waitress and housekeeper.

Last night’s nominees and winners of the Oscars 2015 also followed that trend. The winner of Best Actress last night, Patricia Arquette played a mother/ex-wife on Boyhood and the winner of Best Actor, Eddie Redmayne played author, scientist, and disabled entertainer in the movie The Theory of Everything.
