‘The Walking Dead’ Pays Tribute to Georgia Stuntman Who Died Working on The Show

0

The season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead ended with a memorial dedicated to Georgia stuntman John Bernecker and filmmaker George Romero. Bernecker worked on The Walking Dead and died accidentally during filming this summer in Georgia. He fell 25 feet from a balcony and narrowly missed a safety cushion, according to police.

Bernecker worked on several AMC shows including Turn: Washington’s Spies. He also did stunt work on 24: Legacy, The Hunger Games, Black Panther and The Fate of the Furious. He also did photo double work for Will Ferrell, Channing Tatum, Jay Baruchel and many other actors as a Hollywood stuntman.

Romero didn’t work on the show, but the famed director’s movies did lay the groundwork for the show. He died after a battle with lung cancer at the age of 77. Romero wrote and directed the 1968 movie Night of the Living Dead, which launched the modern zombie genre. He popularized versions of zombies that are significant to The Walking Dead.
