The production of the highly anticipated limited series “Before” on Apple TV+, featuring the renowned actor Billy Crystal, has come to a halt until the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike concludes, confirmed a knowledgeable source to TheWrap on Thursday.

“Before,” produced by Paramount Television Studios, centers around Crystal’s character, a child psychologist and recent widower who crosses paths with a troubled young boy. The series boasts a talented team, with Sarah Thorp (“The Bounty Hunter”) as the writer and Adam Bernstein (“Fargo”) directing the pilot. Crystal, Thorp, Bernstein, Jet Wilkinson (“The Old Man”), and Eric Roth (“Dune”) are serving as executive producers for the show.

Filming for the series took place in Hoboken, New Jersey, but WGA picketing temporarily disrupted it earlier this month, leading to an indefinite pause. Other East Coast productions affected by the strike include Disney+’s “Daredevil: Born Again” and Max’s “The Penguin.” Similarly, the “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” in Montana and Sam Esmail’s planned Apple TV+ series “Metropolis” in Australia has been put on hold, with the latter being permanently shut down due to the strike and substantial pre-production costs, as reported by Deadline.

In the wake of the strike, scripted television filming has ground to a halt in Los Angeles, causing significant disruptions across the industry.
