The ratings are in and The Walking Dead obliterates the competition with record setting TV ratings

The Georgia filmed zombie-drama is still TV’s highest-rated series. After four seasons of setting new ratings records every few episodes, The Walking Dead reigns supreme on Sunday night with 17.3 million viewers and 11 million viewers in the key demo of 18 to 49 year-olds.

This is easily the top “live plus same-day” demo rating for an entertainment telecast this season — well above the 5.4 earned by the season premiere of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory.” And among all primetime programs, it ties at No. 1 with the Sept. 28 “Sunday Night Football” game on NBC between the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys. AMC’s zombie drama beat last year’s ratings by more than 1 million viewers during the season 5 premiere. This is is great news for AMC and these intial reportings do not factor in encores, DVR and mobile platforms where many other fans watched what happened on the streets of Terminus.
