Tom Cruise is actively working on his upcoming movie set in space, aiming to achieve what no other actor has done before.

Teaming up with his “Edge of Tomorrow” director Doug Liman, Cruise is set to become the first civilian to perform a spacewalk in this ambitious film project. Backed by Universal, the movie boasts an approximately $200 million budget.

During the premiere of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” in New York, Cruise was asked about the space-set movie. While he didn’t have a specific production start date, he expressed their diligent efforts and the anticipation of seeing where the project would lead.

However, before diving into the space adventure, Cruise must complete the “Dead Reckoning Part Two” production, potentially marking the conclusion of the renowned “Mission: Impossible” series. Christopher McQuarrie, the writer and director overseeing both installments, revealed that he and Cruise would resume work on “Part Two” immediately after the press tour for “Part One.”

After wrapping up their promotional tour, McQuarrie mentioned scouting locations while returning to the UK and wasting no time starting production. He humorously said having only two days of vacation before getting back to work upon arriving in Tokyo.

The latest “Mission: Impossible” film, hitting theaters this Wednesday, showcases Cruise’s IMF agent Ethan Hunt facing off against a mysterious antagonist from his past. The movie also reunites him with his trusted allies, including Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), and Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson).

Undoubtedly, the allure of any “Mission: Impossible” installment lies in its thrilling stunts, and “Dead Reckoning Part One” is no exception. In the film, Cruise fearlessly rides a motorcycle off a colossal cliff and safely parachutes to the ground. When asked about this incredible sequence, Cruise casually dismissed it as just another ordinary day on set.

“I keep things pretty calm, nothing unusual. The usual day for me,” Cruise commented, emphasizing the relaxed approach on set while acknowledging the behind-the-scenes preparations. He recalled arriving on the morning of the stunt to find the ramp covered in ice, which was promptly cleared before executing the jump.

Simon Pegg, who has shared the screen with Cruise in five previous “Mission: Impossible” films, praised Cruise’s exceptional dedication and described him as carrying the weight of cinema itself during the production of “Dead Reckoning Part One” amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic.

While Pegg acknowledged his ambition and commitment to his craft, he recognized that Cruise’s dedication and fearlessness surpassed any other actor’s. Pegg marveled at Cruise’s ability to face an existential crisis in the form of a pandemic and remain undeterred, admitting that he didn’t possess the same level of tenacity. He credited Cruise as the sole actor capable of performing such daring feats, emphasizing his unique position in the industry.
