The DC Extended Universe is Coming to an End

The DC Extended Universe is coming to an end.

According to Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara, DC will continue to make standalone films, however, the DC Extended Universe as a whole will soon no longer exist. Tsujihara told the Los Angeles Times, “The upcoming slate, with ShazamJokerWonder Woman 1984, and Birds of Prey, feels like we’re on the right track. We have the right people in the right jobs working on it. The universe isn’t as connected as we thought it was going to be five years ago.”

Ending the Extended Universe may come as no surprise to some, considering DC is competing with Marvel Studios, who has seen a very successful decade with their Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That said, DC’s attempt with “Justice League” and “Batman V. Superman”, however, found great success with “Wonder Woman” and most recently, “Aquaman” movies. “You’re seeing much more focus on individual experiences around individual characters,” said Tsujihara. “That’s not to say we won’t at some point come back to that notion of a more connected universe. But it feels like that’s the right strategy for us right now.”

This news comes after reports “Suicide Squad 2” is set to film in Atlanta, Georgia this fall 2019.
