Shonda Rhimes Developing Catholic Drama Series for ABC

Shondaland is developing a NBC drama series about catholic nuns.

If you are a Grey’s Anatomy or Scandal fan, then I have great news for you. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, is working on a Catholic drama series for ABC.

The untitled project from writer-executive producer Alison Schapker revolves around a group of Catholic nuns fighting the closure of their Bronx-based convent while also dealing with three young men and women who are trying to unearth long-buried secrets about the convent. As Variety points out it will “throw into question everything you think you know about the “Brides of Christ.”

Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers will also serve as exec producers on the series, which is the first religious genre series for Shondaland.

The nun series will be the second sale for Shondaland this season. ABC bought a comedy earlier this month, titled Splitsville, from Trophy Wife creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins. The comedy centers around a group of single residents of a suburban community who join forces to raise their kids together.
