Movie audience hated Matthew McConaughey’s new movie ‘Sea of Trees’ so bad that they booed the movie during the Cannes premiere.

Matthew McConaughey‘s new movie is having a rough start. McConaughey’s ‘Sea of Tree’s movie premiered at the Cannes film festival and the audience booed.

The Gus Van Sant drama ‘The Sea of Trees‘ is being called one of the worst movies of the Cannes Film Festival.

Sea of Trees is a drama mystery film directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) and written by Chris Sparling. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Ken Watanabe, Naomi Watts, Katie Aselton, and Jordan Gavaris. ‘Sea of Trees’ is about an American man who attempts suicide in Japan’s “Suicide Forest”, where he meets a Japanese man there for the same reason.

We posted speaking roles for the ‘Sea of Trees’ several months ago while it filmed in Boston, Massachusetts. If you didn’t land a role on ‘Sea of Trees’ you might have done yourself a favor. Reports suggest that the audience hated so much that they booed so loud it forced the director and Matthew McCounaughey to comment on the scathing reviews.

From TheWrap:

“I heard that,” said the actor when asked about the booing during a press conference on Saturday. “And I would say, real simply, anyone has as much right to boo as they do to ovate.”

For his part, Van Sant said he read one review of the film this morning: “I thought, OK, now we know where we stand.”

He shrugged. “There was a story that there was some kind of fight [at Cannes] after an ‘Elephant’ screening,” he said of the 2003 movie of his that divided audiences but won the Palme d’Or. “There were fisticuffs…over [whether the movie was] good or bad, and actual punches.

“Who knows?”
