Ryan Reynolds revealed a personal inside detail about the new Deadpool movie.

“I understand the idea of filtering pain through comedy,” the actor told Men’s Health about playing the lead role of “Deadpool” following his dad’s death from Parkinson’s Disease last year. “Laughing can serve you in those dark moments and even help you crawl your way back out.”

Reynolds, who stars as the anti-hero in the upcoming comic book movie adaptation, admitted that his character’s quirky sense of humor helped him cope with losing his father.

“I think there’s something really relatable about that idea, that there’s something to be learned by taking life a little less seriously,” he shared.

“In my dad’s dying moments, we were making him laugh. We were all in there together, me and my brothers, just joking with him. And of course we end up busting each other’s chops. I recommended that the doctor’s raise Dad’s dose of Dilaudid in order to make my brother more tolerable,” Reynolds continued.

“It wasn’t a bad way to go. If I could have the same death as my father, I would do it right now.”

Ryan Reynolds’ dad had been battling Parkinson’s for 20 years, passed away at the age of 74 in October.

After welcoming their first child in 2014, Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively named their daughter James in his father’s honor.
