Nearly a thousand production crew and independent contractors may never get paid due to Relativity Media’s bankruptcy.

We reported yesterday that a major movie studio in Hollywood is in trouble and that thousands of jobs are in jeopardy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, nearly 760 “temporary production personnel and a few dozen independent contractors” are probably not going to get paid due to Relativity Media bankruptcy.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Then, there’s 760 temporary production personnel and a few dozen independent contractors. Relativity spends $5.55 million per month on these creatives, with just over $3 million owed. Possibly bad news for them: The restructuring chief and his colleagues “seek the authority, but not the direction, to pay” these obligations based on business judgment.

What about actors? According to Variety, SAG-Aftra, is working hard to make sure that they actors are compensated for their work on Relativity Media’s productions.

A federal judge has approved $8 million in residual payments from bankrupt Relativity Media to the Hollywood unions for screenwriters, directors and actors.

But, $8 million is only a fraction of the supposed $28 million Relativity Media owes to performers and producers.
