‘Orange is the New Black’ Actress, Uzo Aduba inspiring open letter explains why you should never give up on something you believe in and how her Netflix audition nearly ended her acting career.

Uzo Aduba who plays Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Netflix’s hit series ‘Orange is the New Black‘ recently wrote an inspiring open letter about her acting career.

My Road to Orange is the New Black‘ is a beautiful open letter. She describes growing up with her mother, a Nigerian immgrant, and how supportive she was when Aduba was constantly faced with rejection. Like many actors, Aduba had a hard time breaking into the entertainment industry. At one point in time she writes that she heard “word “no” so often that it started to feel like a second name.”

During my time in theater, there were lows. Shows closed, unexpectedly (or worse, never opened!). The magic of landing my first role on Broadway went “poof” in a matter of a few weeks. Frequently, I called my mom to seek guidance (and to shed some tears). Through all of my disappointments and heartbreak, she never played “the practical parent” or pleaded with me to pursue something more stable. Instead, she encouraged me and supported me. “Just keep pushing,” “Keep going,” she would say.

In the open letter she describes the audition she had that made her want to quit acting completely. After getting lost, she was 20 minutes late to her audition . Since she was late she felt as though she completely ruined the audition. Aduba considered it was a sign to quit working as an actor and take up another career. But, two hours later she got the call to appear in ‘Orange is the New Black‘ “No” finally turned to “Yes.”

Uzo Aduba inspiring open letter describes how difficult it is for anyone to make it in the industry. But, to “keep pushing” and never give up on something you believe in.
