Oprah is Headed to Atlanta to Star on the New ‘Greenleaf’

Oprah Winfrey is headed to Atlanta for a recurring role on Greenleaf.

The new Atlanta filmed OWN network series, Greenleaf, has just cast one of the biggest actors in the entertainment industry to join the cast and crew of the new TV series.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oprah Winfrey will have a recurring role on the OWN drama Greenleaf.

The TV personality and producer will having a recurring role on the Discovery-owned cable network’s forthcoming drama Greenleaf, OWN announced Thursday.

Green leaf centers on the world of the Greenleaf family and their major Memphis megachurch, where secrets and lies are as numerous as the faithful church members.

Oprah Winfrey will join Keith David (Community), Emmy winner Lynn Whitfield (The Josephine Baker Story), Merle Dandridge (The Night Shift) and Desiree Ross (Falling Skies). In addition, Greenleaf features Lamman Rucker(Meet the Browns), Kim Hawthorne (Rake), Deborah Joy Winans(Whitney) and Tye White (American Crime Story).

Oprah Winfrey will executive produce the series and play Mavis McCready, the sister of Lady Mae Greenleaf, a friend of the pastor’s wife.

The Book of Negroes’ Clement Virgo is set to direct the pilot in Atlanta, Georgia.

Oprah Winfrey recently appeared in Ava DuVernay’s Selma and is also set to recur in DuVernay’s upcoming OWN drama Queen Sugar. Oprah Winfrey’s past credits also include The Butler and The Color Purple, where she earned her first and only Oscar nomination.

Green leaf will premiere next year 2016 on OWN.
