Lucasfilm is working on a new ‘Star Wars’ movie with the writer-director J.D. Dillard and ‘Luke Cage’ writer Matt Owens.

According to Variety, the project has a long way to go and is in its very early stages. At this time, actors, cast, location, and time period is currently unknown. At this time, it is unknown whether or not this project will hit Disney Plus or go directly to theaters.

Should Disney choose to green-light the project, it would be the first time black filmmakers were the creative team behind the live-action ‘Star Wars’ movie.

Meanwhile in the ‘Star Wars’ galaxy, ‘The Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson is still developing new ‘Star Wars’ movies for Disney, but this month he was also hired to work on the sequel to Lionsgate’s’ ‘Knives Out’. Kevin Feige is also developing a ‘Star Wars’ movie and the screenwriter behind ‘Avatar’ and ‘Shutter Island’, Late Kalogridis is reportedly writing a movie for Lucas Film based on the video game series “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.”

Walt Disney Company’s Bob Iger told investors earlier this month “the priority in the next few years [for ‘Star Wars’] is television,” which could possibly add spin-offs of the hit Disney Plus series “The Mandalorian”.

Lucasfilm is still moving forward with a planned series with Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, despite production had to be pushed to 2021 after writer Hossein Amini left the project.

And a “Rogue One” prequel series starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor is still coming soon and set to debut in 2021.
