NBC “Law and Order” SVU Renewed After Almost Being Cancelled

NBC has recently closed a deal to give the Law and Order series, SVU another season after a possible cancellation.

According to Deadline, NBC has closed a deal with the producers Dick Wolf for a 16th season of the crime drama series.

Leading actress Mariska Hargitay will return for another season on the series but, the decision for another season came down to a significant pay cut. Wolf had been asked to take a lower budget in order for the show to continue, this is something they were unwilling to do.

For a little while, things looked like touch and go, with showrunner Warren Leight exploring other jobs, but he recently re-committed to SVU as a deal with NBC began to look imminent. The renewal restores Wolf’s NBC drama series tally to three for a second consecutive season.

Law and Order’s SVU averages around 8.4 million viewers per episode. Filming occurs in New York City.
