Netflix confirms Narcos: Mexico is picked up for a third season. That said, actor Diego Luna will not reprise his role as cartel leader Félix Gallardo. The series co-creator Carlo Bernard will also be taking over from Eric Newman as showrunner.

“I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico and am immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows,” Newman said in a statement. “Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project over ten years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico in his very capable hands.”

The series ended with Félix Gallardo, played by Diego Luna, arrested and in prison for his crimes. Season three will be set in the ‘90s, following Gallardo’s empire’s actions leading into warring groups, political changes, and a drug trade becoming a worldwide business.

In relevant news, Narcos star Boyd Holbrook revealed what it was like to film the show in Colombia. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Boyd Holbrook who plays DEA agent Steve Murphy on the series revealed what it was like to work on the streaming series.

He explains, “It totally changed my life, and I really mean that. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done—the amount of work and how ambitious the show is because it is so ambitious. And then, to do it. It takes a lot out of you, but it was extremely rewarding. I grew. For an actor, to go to work every day is a really rare occurrence. You may work on a film for three months max, and then you’re off, so you have to find another job and then work another three months. So to go to work every single day, those 16 to 18 months, was incredible. Repetition is everything.”
