Is ABC going to cancel ‘Marvel’s Agents of Shield‘?

According to reports, ABC’s ‘Marvel’s Agents of Shield’ hit a series low in their season 1 finale. After weeks of steady ratings, the season finale had their worst ratings yet.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” averaged a 1.3 rating/4 share in adults 18-49 and 4.0 million viewers overall with its two-hour finale from 9 to 11. The result is a bit surprising given that it had averaged a 1.5 or 1.6 with each of its last five episode. And vs. last year’s hourlong finale (2.0 in 18-49, 5.5 million), “SHIELD” was down about 30%. It continues to be a strong performer in DVR playback, with last week’s episode spiking more than 80% in 18-49 (more than any other Tuesday show) to surge ahead of timeslot rival “NCIS: New Orleans.” One plus for ABC was that, since the network typically struggles in the 10 p.m., the two-hour score for “SHIELD” was above average for the net. At the end of the day ABC is probably not going to cancel a series with 4.0 million viewer on a bad night. But, if things continue downward for ABC’s ‘Marvel’s Agents of Shield’ expect the network to pull the plug without a single bit of hesitation.
