Leonardo DiCaprio is building his own luxury resort on a private island.

Leonardo DiCaprio says he is building a luxury, environmentally friendly resort on an island he bought off the coast of Belize.

According to an interview with The New York Times, the Shutter Island actor revealed he has purchased Blackadore Caye for a little more than $1 million dollars and he will be building a luxury resort on the island transforming the 104 acres of uninhabited land.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

The private resort, opening to guests in 2018, will feature 68 guest villas, 48 vacation homes (with prices ranging from $5 million to $15 million), infinity pools and sunset views along the beach, the Timesreported. The upcoming venture will be named “Blackadore Caye, a Restorative Island.”

“The main focus is to do something that will change the world,” DiCaprio told the paper. “I couldn’t have gone to Belize and built on an island and done something like this if it weren’t for the idea that it would be groundbreaking in the environmental movement.”

“We are pushing each other the whole way to test the boundaries of what is possible,” the actor said. “With the onset of climate change, there are huge challenges, so we want the structure to not only enhance and improve the environment, but to be a model for the future.”

Leonardo DiCaprio has a history of promoting environmental awareness. In March, the actor announced he will be teaming with Netflix to create a series of documentaries about the environment. In addition, through his environmental non-profit foundation, DiCaprio has spent $2 million to stop illegal fishing and build marine reserves.

But, let’s just hope Leonardo DiCaprio’s luxury resort island is NOTHING like ‘Shutter Island’.
