Kid Saves Classmate From Dying, After Watching SpongeBob SquarePants

Autism comes with several negative stereotypes but thanks to one student’s ability to absorb knowledge from SpongeBob SquarePants, he was able to save his classmates life.

Last month, 13-year-old Jessica Pelligrini started choking on an apple during lunch. This incident could have turned for the worse had fellow classmate Brandon Williams, not rushed and successfully performed the Heimlick Maneuver.

Brandon’s father, Anthony Williams, asked where he had learned the life-saving technique. Brandon’s response? SpongeBob SquarePants.

Brian Griffin, the school’s paraprofessional recounted the incident to Staten Island Live.

“‘The cafeteria is always very noisy, but I heard the kids calling me. I was ready to jump in, but Brandon had it,’ Griffin said. ‘He was amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it.’”

Anthony Williams tells Staten Island Live“[Brandon] picks up things that most of us would miss, and files it all away in his head, and he can recall it all in an instant.” Anthony added, ““That’s how he knew instantly what to do.”

Jessica recently told Eyewitness News that she will never forget Brandon. “He’s awesome and cute.” On Thursday, she gave him a huge hug and softly told him “Thank you.”

SpongeBob SquarePants was created by a marine biologist and animator Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. Since the cartoon first premiered, the franchise sold over $8 billion in merchandising revenue for Nickelodeon. In 2011, a newly described species of mushroom, Spongiforma squarepantsii, was named after the cartoon’s title character.
