Jenna Ortega is reportedly negotiating to take on the starring role of Tim Burton’s highly anticipated sequel, “Beetlejuice 2”.

According to Variety, Jenna Ortega is reportedly under consideration for a part in Tim Burton’s highly-anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice.

Ortega, widely recognized for her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s recent hit series “Wednesday,” is reportedly negotiating to act as the daughter of Lydia Deetz (played by Winona Ryder) in the much-anticipated retelling. This is not the first collaboration between Burton and “Wednesday”; she has previously acted as an executive producer for the show, having directed four of its eight episodes. Michael Keaton is returning to portray the iconic character once again.

Warner Bros. has been developing the sequel for a while before Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B, officially came on board in February last year. Charles (Jeffrey Jones), Delia (Catherine O’Hara), and Lydia Deetz (Ryder) star in the iconic movie “Beetlejuice” as they take up residence within a house that was once owned by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis’ characters, the Maitlands. Following a tragic car accident, the Maitlands have been left as ghosts in their former house. Desiring to remain there, they employ Beetlejuice (Keaton) – an expert “bio-exorcist” – to evict the Deetzes and reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

Celebrated by critics and popular audiences alike, “Beetlejuice” was a massive success, earning $74 million in North America on just a $15 million budget. Variety’s review of 1987 highlighted the brilliance of Keaton’s performance. It noted, “Keaton pops up from his grave to liven things up when the antics pitting the good ghosts against the intruders become a trite cat & mouse game.”

In 2013, the possibility of a sequel to this beloved classic was discussed when Keaton confirmed he and Burton were discussing it. In 2014, Burton expressed that he yearned for the persona of Beetlejuice, proclaiming: “There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.” Ryder re-confirmed that the film was in the works on a “Late Night With Seth Meyers” appearance in 2015.
